About the DigiTech JamMan Looper and Phrase Sampler Delay Pedal
When DigiTech developed the PDS 8000 looper pedal over twenty years ago, it offered eight seconds of delay or looped audio. When they reinvented loopers in 2005 with the original JamMan, over 6 hours worth of material could be recorded and stored on a removable media card. Now DigiTech has combined the best of both these worlds in the new JamMan Delay Looper. The JamMan Delay Looper features both true stereo looping and a fully programmable stereo delay with powerful control over both effects.
DigiTech JamMan Looper and Phrase Sampler Delay Pedal Reviews
I like to lay down the rhythms to the songs we're doing and then practice licks over them when getting ready for a live performance. I have a 20 second looping function in my Fender G-DEC amp, but it's never long enough and it's hard to synchronize with and to get the loop to start and stop without gaps in the recording. I bought the Jam Man Looper with Delay hoping to address these problems, and I couldn't be happier. I bought this unit rather than others because it had a long recording time PLUS an SD Card output for nearly indefinite recording time. It automatically syncs the beginning and end points of the loop so there are no gaps and it's quick and easy to lay down a loop. You can synch up the delay with the loop rhythm which makes it easy to sound in time as you play. The thing that bugs me about this pedal is that you'll lay down a loop and it's faster than you just recorded. You therefore have to lay down the loop just a hair slower than you normally would play the licks at and then you'll get it right. The delay section works in harmony with the looper and it's VERY capable. In fact, it's more capable than the delay functions I have on my multi-pedal, so It's going to take me a while to really dial in the exact delays that I want. That's my personal learning curve and not a problem with the unit. Now, do you buy this one or the one without the delay? If you've got a well-dialed in and tweaked delay setup already, you can buy the Jam Man without the delay and have all the features of the looper that's in this unit, but for the best sound, you're going to have to synch up your delay and your looper manually. That may or may not be a big issue for you. If you don't really have a great delay setup, get this Jam Man Looper and Delay and you've got two pedals in one. Overall, very pleased with this unit. VERY capable and does what it's supposed to do.
