About the Audio-Technica PRO 24 Stereo Condenser Microphone

The PRO 24 sets a new price/performance standard in stereo microphone technology. Designed for professional recording and DAT field use, it offers the convenience of affordable, high-quality stereo pickup in a single microphone. Its compact, lightweight design is perfect for camera-mount use. The microphone features a pair of cardioid elements in an X-Y configuration to provide the spatial impact and realism of a live sound field.

Audio-Technica PRO 24 Stereo Condenser Microphone Reviews

Bought this a use with the $100 tascam recorder. The recorder has built in stationary mics in a y pattern. The Pro 24 mic allows better recording, better stereo separation, more flexible placement because I can put the recorder by me to hit record and stop, but I can have the mic 5 feet away in a more central location mounted up on a mic stand. This has made my band rehearsal recordings much much better. You have to turn on the mic power setting on the tascam to make it work. Also, there is a little bit a noise compared to recording without the external mic. Not sure if that is due to the mic or the recorder. But it's not enough to cause any problems. The gain on the recorder is a lot lower than the built in mic, so when I use this recorder, I have to turn the record level up from zero to 60 (out of 100 i think?). I think turning the level up so high is what is causing the noise.
